TOPS Seeks Mandarin Chinese Teacher

TOPS School Seeks Mandarin Chinese Teacher for 2007-2008 School Year. TOPS is a dynamic, K-8 public school in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood. The school seeks an experienced Mandarin Chinese teacher for its growing after-school Chinese program.

The program serves Kindergarten through Grade 5. Classes meet once a week from 3:30-4:15.

We have an opening for a part-time Mandarin Chinese teacher beginning in September 2007.

We seek someone who is experienced and energetic and who has a passion for teaching young children.

Seattle Schools Mandarin Teacher

Seattle Schools has an immediate opening for a part-time instructor of Mandarin in the District's new elementary Chinese language program at Graham Hill Elementary in South Seattle. The instructor will be teaching two half-hour classes every morning Monday-Friday to kindergarten and first grade students. The program is funded by a Foreign Language Assistance Program grant from the U.S. Department of Education and its focus is on learning Math in Mandarin. The Chinese teacher at Graham Hill will be working with Chinese teachers in similar programs at John Muir and Beacon Hill Elementaries. The ideal candidate will have native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin and experience teaching young children.

Northwest Language Academy Opening

Northwest Language Academy, based on Whidbey Island is eagerly seeking native ( or equivalent) speakers of Chinese, that are passionate about sharing their language and culture and have experience working with both children and adults. We are particularly looking for a teacher that could work with us on a week-long summer day camp, July 30 - August 3, as well as various programs starting next fall. Chinese teachers for non-profit language school

The Washington Academy of Languages is currently seeking several adjunct Mandarin Chinese instructors to teach our evening immersion classes. Small class sizes with 3-12 students. Must have native or near native fluency in Mandarin. Classes are held on North Queen Anne in Seattle. Classes meet two nights per week. New sessions begin every five weeks. Job Opening:  Chinese teachers for K-8th grades

The Language Link LLC is looking for part time Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic teachers for before and after school language enrichment classes. Must have classroom experience teaching children at the K-5 levels or 6th-8th grade levels. Maximum class size is 12. Must be able to teach beginning through intermediate levels of language with native or near native fluency. Culturally rich curriculum is provided. Must have reliable transportation. Classes meet in public elementary and middle schools in the Queen Anne and Magnolia neighborhoods of Seattle. This is a contract position. Position: Chinese Language Instructor

Status: Contracted employment

Dates/Times/Hours: Ongoing four-week sessions held Saturday mornings beginning October 6, 2007, 9:30-10:30 am + 1 hour planning/prep per class. No classes in December.

Responsibilities: Design and deliver thematic Chinese curriculum to children age 2 ½ - 8 and their parents/guardians during play-based, once weekly, hour-long sessions. Incorporate musical, visual, and dramatic arts.

Reporting: Program instructor will work closely with the CMT Program Manager to develop and implement lesson plans and activity schedules.

Qualifications: Must be fluent in Mandarin Chinese, preferably a native speaker. Must have experience creating lesson plans and leading children’s group activities. Applicants will be subject to background check.

Chinese Language Upper School Teacher

Saint George's School is an independent, coeducational day school located on the Little Spokane River north of Spokane. The school, founded in 1954, enrolls 399 students in grades Kindergarten through twelfth, offering a broad liberal arts curriculum and preparing students for academically rigorous college programs.

This position will be a full-time, regular faculty appointment.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful applicant will have a background in teaching Chinese to English speakers; be comfortable using technology to enhance the learning process such as video taping, podcasts and the language lab; be prepared to find or develop curriculum at each level; be able to communicate clearly with parents and students about the program and create a positive, nurturing classroom environment characterized by autonomous learning and respect and also:
  • Teach 4 or 5 sections of Chinese in the Upper School including Chinese 1, Chinese 2, Chinese 3 and AP Chinese. Classes meet every day for 45 minutes. Homework is assigned and corrected daily.
  • Support the Lower School World Language Program by teaching units throughout the year and helping with the Lower School International Club.
  • Support our K-12 International Day.
  • Design and develop creative and challenging curriculum using an integrated approach that meets the needs of individual students.
  • Utilize different strategies to meet students' skill levels,
    learning styles, and social/emotional needs.
  • Create an environment of respect and trust that encourages communication in the target language.
  • Prepare students so as to have a smooth transition between the level taught and the next level of language.
  • Integrate cultural perspectives China into the curriculum.
  • Work closely with other classrooms and colleagues in
    cooperative efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with the other members of the World
    Languages Department.

Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience.
Bachelor's degree or master's degree.
Conversational in the language taught.
Excellent communication skills.
Energetic and enthusiastic.
Flexible.
Good sense of humor.
