Global Collaborations Aligned to Standards in World Language Programs

This project is funded by a grant from Longview Foundation.

Purpose: Introduce World Language teachers to collaborative projects through iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) to enhance achievement of World Language Standards

Timeframe: Spring-Fall, 2006

Description:

  • Provide opportunity for up to five world language teachers to participate in online course “Using technology to teach second languages” (iEARN)
  • Provide professional development workshops and mentoring to 10 World Language teachers for implementing and assessing iEARN projects in conjunction with World Language curriculum
  • Document and produce 10 project templates, which include assessment tools tied to Voluntary World Language Standards
  • Collaborate with experts to refine documentation into “Starter Kits” able to be generalized across the field (languages, levels, models)
  • Disseminate results and share products across the state through the Coalition network, and across the field through language teaching conferences
  • Provide links and resources to World Language teachers in Washington State via our Coalition website, OSPI website, and WAFLT website
  • Present the standards at state conferences, including the WAFLT (World Language) Conference, Social Studies Council Conference, and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Training Institutes
